On October 18, 2011, Brooklyn resident and artist Mathieu Lefevre, was riding his bicycle home from his art studio when he was hit and killed by a flatbed crane truck driver for Imperium Construction, at the intersection of Morgan Ave. and Meserole St. Since that time Mathieu's family have devoted their efforts to discover the truth about what happened in that devastating crash, to work towards helping other traffic crash victims, and to promote traffic safety.

As well, Mathieu's family is determined to continue his legacy as an artist.

Biography: Mathieu Lefevre (1981 -2011)

After a brief birth and upbringing in the heart of the Canadian prairies (Edmonton), he moved to Montreal where he taught himself to make art. Mathieu attended Laval University, Quebec (B.A in Political Sciences), and Université du Québec à Montréal (B.A. in Visual Arts).

During his brief career as an artist, he had more than 20 solo exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, Moncton, Calgary, the United States (New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago) and Europe (Copenhagen, Madrid, Torino). Representing Canada at the Prague Biennial 5, Czech Republic, his work was also shown extensively in over 30 group exhibitions.

His practice involves sculpture, installation, painting, photography and text- based works. A gifted artist, Mathieu uses humour and derision to question the conventions and systems that govern society, particularly the art world. His work has been shown post-humously in nine art exhibitions in Canada and the U.S.A.

Three books and numerous magazine articles have been published posthumously about his life and his art.
